Working at Fenner Dunlop (Australia)

Employment Policies

Recruitment and Selection

We regularly advertise for staff both online and in local newspapers. Our recruitment and selection procedure includes interviews, reference checks and a medical examination. The purpose of the medical is to check that a person does not have any pre-existing physical or health conditions that may affect the person's ability to perform the work adequately or have an adverse effect on others. The medical includes a drug and alcohol test.

The procedure may also involve aptitude testing for particular roles, e.g. Conveyor Belt Technician role.

When hiring new staff, we look for people who possess both the technical and professional skills and experience required for the position and also people who have the personal attributes that are expressed in the Spirit of Apex Fenner. For example we look for people who have a "can do" attitude and who are customer service focused.

Internal Advertising

It is our policy to advertise vacancies to our current employees to encourage career development and promotions. Internal advertisements are regularly distributed via email and noticeboards.

Equal Employment Policy

We are committed to the principles of Equal Opportunity. This includes treating people equally and providing an open and friendly work environment that has a zero tolerance to:

  • unlawful discrimination,
  • sexual harassment,
  • all other unlawful harassment
  • and bullying.

The Equal Opportunity Policy is incorporated into all aspects of our staff policies and procedures including recruitment, promotion, training and transfers. All employment decisions are determined by personal merit and based on the skills, job performance, qualifications, abilities and experience of the individual.

We conduct all business activities in a manner that ensures fair and equal treatment for all employees, contractors, customers, suppliers and visitors.

All staff are required to comply with the Equal Opportunity Policy and treat colleagues fairly. Respect, support and pride in the Team are all part of how we behave in the Company and part of the "Spirit of Apex Fenner".

Training

We are committed to the process of continual improvement and provide ongoing learning and development opportunities for all staff to learn new processes and skills. We would rather train our people and risk losing them, than not train them and keep them. We aim at muscle building the Company through quality recruiting and relevant training. We want to coach people to succeed, rather than coax them to achieve.

Induction

New employees complete a formal induction program over the first 3 months of employment which includes information on our key policies and relevant safety training.

Performance Management

We conduct formal annual performance appraisals for our employees which includes a performance review between the individual and the manager and a discussion on development opportunities.
